and Vision |
Founded in 1995, the
Joint Policy Council on Agriculture and Higher Education (JPC) consists of the chief
executives of Californias public institutions of higher education which have
substantial agricultural programs, along with the chairman of the JPC Advisory Board. The
JPC was created to address the challenges of sustaining public higher educations
vital support of California agriculture in the face of present and anticipated factors
that threaten the traditional excellence of higher education agriculture programs and the
competitiveness of the agriculture industry. Among these are reduced budgets for higher
education, the globalization of markets, and the impacts of burgeoning communities in
traditional farming areas. The JPC has
thirteen members, consisting of the chancellors of the University of California campuses
at Berkeley, Davis, and Riverside; the UC vice president for agriculture and natural
resources; the presidents of the California State University campuses at Chico, Fresno,
Pomona and San Luis Obispo; the chancellor of the California Community Colleges; the
presidents of Modesto JC, Mt. San Antonio College, Santa Rosa JC; and the chairman of the
JPC advisory board. |
