IHRMP EVALUATION STRATEGY

We are firmly committed to providing a detailed analysis of the success of the IHRMP in meeting its stated goals. An independent assessment was recently completed of the IHRMP. This report contains a summary of the current education program, including: techniques in use, audiences being targeted, regional interest and activities, available baseline information, and evaluation efforts to date; a summary of methods for program evaluation; and a proposed evaluation strategy and specific recommendations for procedures and studies.

Proposed action items for evaluation in the upcoming year are:
  1. Conduct baseline studies: Regional baseline surveys of major audiences in appropriate regions: woodcutters, planners, small and large landowners, resource professionals, nursery operators, environmental groups, and the general public.

  2. Survey newsletter recipients (Oaks ’n’ Folks and Hardwood Habitats).

  3. Evaluate Network Committees and other cooperative efforts: set objectives, test at appropriate date in the future; survey opinions, roles and responsibilities at beginning and at two-year intervals. Interviews of participants may be most useful. Compare Network Committees in different regions and to those areas without formal committees.

  4. Conduct formal case study analysis of various IHRMP activities.

  5. Survey workshop participants from last year. Use standardized workshop evaluation form.

  6. Conduct interviews (small sample) of landowners and developers who have not had contact with extension on hardwood issues to find out reasons for non-participation (greater insight into interests and needs).

  7. Compare status of the resource and woodcutter attitudes in Monterey County, which has a woodcutting ordinance, to those of San Benito County, which does not.
