TIG SOCIAL AND DINNER EVENT
Wednesday, November 1, 8:00 pm, Oceanarium
Each year the EEE-TIG offers
a social and dinner to provide TIG members, spouses, and friends
an opportunity to get together to establish and renew friendships
and reconnect with colleagues. The social and dinner this year
will be the evening of Wednesday, November 1 at the Oceanarium at
the Pacific Beach Hotel at 2490 Kalakaua Avenue. Our dinner
reservation is for 8:00 pm. The name is more than a teaser; a 280,000
gallon oceanarium graces the dining area. As for fare, they have
a "dinner of the month" which is a complete dinner/dessert
combination ($19.95 or 29.95) which includes choice of roasted
potatoes or steamed white rice, soup or salad, steak or prime rib
with one of chicken breast, shrimp/scallops brochette, shrimp
scampi, or fresh catch; dessert and beverage. They also have a
wide variety of other complete dinners and entrees including
salad and vegetarian entrees ranging from modest to extravagant.
We will be able to order off the menu and be billed individually.
In a couple of weeks you will receive a reminder and request for
an RSVP so we have a count. Thanks are due Western Representative
Molly Engle for making the arrangements.
TIG
BUSINESS MEETING
Thursday, November 2, 5:00 6:00 pm., Ewa Room, Sheraton Waikiki
The annual EEE-TIG Business Meeting will be held from 5:00-6:00
pm on Thursday, November 2 in the Ewa room at the Sheraton
Waikiki. The meeting will feature presentation of the annual EEE-TIG
awards, election of new Board members, and other TIG business. Dr.
Ronald Mau, Associate Dean/Associate Director for Cooperative
Extension, University of Hawaii, College of Tropical Agriculture
and Human Resources, will be our guest speaker. He will address
challenges and lessons in addressing evaluation and
accountability issues at the college level.
TIG
OFFICER AND BOARD REPRESENTATIVES ELECTION
Each year the EEE-TIG elects officers and Board members at the
annual conference. This year we will be electing a new Chair-Elect,
North Central Regional Representative, and Southern Regional
Representative. As we have done in the past, members who will not
be able to attend the AEA Conference will be able to vote for
these offices electronically. An electronic ballot will be sent
out to you in about a week. If you will not be able to vote in
person at the EEE-TIG Business Meeting at the AEA Conference, you
can mark and return the electronic ballot via e-mail prior to the
conference. If you will be attending the TIG business meeting in
Honolulu, you can complete a ballot there. The only thing we ask
is that you don't fill out ballots using both methods!
EVALUATION
CAPACITY BUILDING
Ellen Taylor-Powell of the University of Wisconsin is initiating
a dialogue to explore collaborative approaches to evaluation
training. Quoting Ellen: There seems to be a lot of
interest in building evaluation capacity across the system.
. We all have a lot to offer. I'd like to suggest that
those who are interested meet during the Hawaii AEA conference to
discuss how we might collectively and coherently respond to the
demand and help build nationwide capacity in evaluation.
Ellen will recruit participants at our Annual Business Meeting
who will then decide when and where to meet. Please help address
this important need...and opportunity.
2000-2001
BOARD MEETING
The newly-elected EEE-TIG Board will be meeting for the first
time on either Friday or Saturday at the AEA Conference. If you
have any comments, suggestions, proposals or other business that
you feel should be addressed by the TIG Board during the upcoming
year, please contact incoming Chair Nancy Ellen Kiernan (e-mail:
nekiernan@psu.edu, phone: (814) 863-7261).
EEE-TIG
WEBSITE
We have made modest updates at our TIG website http://danr.ucop.edu/eee-aea/
One section that could be improved significantly is the Research
Papers section. You will see that we have only a few papers
posted. Milton Fujii indicates that individuals who presented
last year and those presenting this year can lend a big hand by
sending their papers to him as an attached file. Any standard
word processing document format should work fine. Please send
Milton your good work at Milton.Fujii@ucop.edu Those
presenting this year, please include this in your final
preparations for Honolulu.
