286 GOVERNMENTAL RELATIONS

To ensure that effective relations with government
officials are maintained in accordance with University and
Division policies, the Coordinator for Governmental
Relations serves as the central point of contact with
officials of the State and Federal government. All
Division personnel should coordinate contacts with State
and Federal elected and appointed officials through the
Coordinator. Contacts with government officials are
coordinated in advance of the contact unless exceptional
     circumstances preclude such notice.

The Division Coordinator for Governmental Relations
(California and Federal) coordinates legislative proposals
and negotiates legislative agendas in the Division's
interests. The Coordinator interacts between government
officials and Division program personnel as necessary.

County Directors are encouraged to develop and maintain
relations with officials in local government, including
Boards of Supervisors, City Councils, and administrative
officials. As needed they may call on the Coordinator
for guidance and assistance in strengthening relations
     with local government.
