The Division of Agriculture and Natural Resources (ANR) Natural Resource Coordinating Conference (NRCC) has met annually for the past ten years. The objective of this conference is to bring together the workgroups, special projects, and AES and CE academics working in the broad area of natural resources to:
Each year, 40 to 80 members of ANR meet together to accomplish these broad goals. Range, livestock, forest, marine, wildlife, fisheries, environmental policy, youth education, and general natural resource advisors, specialists, natural reserve managers, and faculty members participate in the NRCC.
The program allows for special breakout sessions of the various workgroups and statewide special projects during the first day of the meeting time. Please indicate if your group would like an opportunity to participate in this on the conference registration form. There will also be field tours of local research centers in the central coast area.
All participants will also be able to learn about the accomplishments and future plans of the various natural resource workgroups. Each workgroup will present a poster of their activities during the reception poster session. Funds are available to support the production of these posters. For more information, contact Bill Frost at wefrost@ucdavis.edu.
The Steering Committee for this year's NRCC has developed a program that focuses on the role of the various research stations managed by ANR in the general natural resource research, teaching, and extension program. The Research and Extension Center (REC), the UC Natural Reserve System (NRS), and various campus-based research stations and forests, each play important roles in ANR's natural resource programs. There are a wide variety of exciting programs taking place on these various research stations. The primary part of the meeting will center on various projects taking place on these units, and some of the innovative approaches to monitoring and management. There will be discussions of ways to better utilize these various research units in on-going natural resource programs within ANR, and explore coordination between managers and clients of these units.
An all day field tour will be held on May 30, departing from the hotel. The tour will include the NRS Hastings Natural History Reserve in Carmel Valley, and a national marine reserve and estuary in Monterey Bay. The tour will focus on the role of natural resource research stations, and highlight innovative research, outreach, and management activities.
